Empowering Students to Green Their Future: Morton Arboretum’s Fight Against Air Pollution in Chicago’s South Side

CHICAGO— (October 26) The Morton Arboretum, Boise Paper (PCA), the Arbor Day Foundation, and the students at Perspectives Middle School Academy joined hands to plant trees on the campus’s NE corridor. Students are embracing this new beautification as they enter and leave school grounds. This endeavor symbolizes a united effort to combat air pollution, enhance green spaces, and promote environmental sustainability in the Auburn/Gresham/Chatham community. Unfortunately, Chicago’s south side communities are all facing this critical air quality challenge.

The active participation of current students from both the Leadership & Middle Academy is a testament to their commitment to making their space greener and take charge of the future and legacy of the school.

Evergreen trees are vital in mitigating air pollution, improving air quality, and providing a natural habitat for wildlife. Each tree we plant is a step toward addressing the pressing issue of air pollution in our community.

Our partnership with Boise Paper, the Arbor Day Foundation, and the Perspectives Leadership Academy students exemplifies power in addressing environmental crises. Boise Paper, a leader in sustainable paper solutions, is dedicated to responsible forest management and has a proven track record of supporting tree-planting initiatives. The Arbor Day Foundation is one of the leading advocates for tree planting and environmental conservation.

Together, we aim to transform the school campus into a greener environment. As students actively participate in planting trees and witness the importance of environmental stewardship, they are inspired to become the next generation of advocates for clean air and a healthier planet.

This initiative aligns perfectly with our shared goal of nurturing young leaders who understand the vital role of caring and preserving life.
