Meet Awvee Storey!

Chicago Sky Foundation Executive Director  & NBA Vet

Awvee Storey is the Executive Director of the Chicago Sky Foundation, where he works to create opportunities for young people in Chicago through core pillars: Economic Development, Health and Wellness, Youth Education, and Women’s Empowerment. Under his leadership, the foundation provides mentorship and resources to help young people succeed, both on and off the court.
Born and raised in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, Awvee later moved to the West Side near Little Italy and UIC. Growing up in these communities gave him a deep connection to the city and a firsthand understanding of the challenges young people face. He attended Proviso West High School before completing his education at New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire. Awvee began his college career at the University of Illinois before transferring to Arizona State University, where he graduated with a double major in Communication and Sociology.
Basketball has played a pivotal role in shaping Awvee’s life. After a successful collegiate career, he went on to play in the NBA and overseas. These experiences helped him develop the ability to navigate different environments, build relationships, and work as part of a team—skills that are central to his leadership today.
Through initiatives like the Chicago Sky Basketball Academy, Small Business Pitch Competition, Coaches’ Clinic, Financial and Reading Literacy Program, Girls’ Mentorship Program, STEM Program, and Basketball Camps and Clinics, Awvee and the foundation strive to equip young people with the skills and confidence they need to thrive. He strongly believes that exposure to different environments is crucial for youth development. Reflecting on his own journey, he credits exposure to new spaces as a key factor in expanding his imagination, deepening his understanding, and fueling his ambition—not just to be in those spaces but to excel in them.
Awvee is committed to making a lasting impact on the next generation, empowering young people to lead, learn, and reach their full potential.
